Tutorial: Fixing Up Pencil Sketches by leg-o-lass Tutorial: Fixing Up Pencil Sketches by leg-o-lass
A tutorial I promised to all the members of my group :iconqualitypencilfma-art:. But since I figured it might come in useful to my watchers, too, I decided to put it into my own gallery as well :)

Hope you guys find it interesting and useful. Please download for full view! It took me quite a while to make it, I'm tired... :faint:

If you make use of this tutorial for your next drawing, please be so kind as to credit me for it and provide a link to this tutorial from your deviation. I'd be very much obliged to you :aww:

If you think I'm competent to make another tutorial of any sort, don't hesitate to request one ;) It was kinda fun to make this...

I usually change it to greyscale. Is that alright?

Well... Not for this technique, I'm afraid ^^; The whole point here is not to use grayscale (i.e. discarding all colour information), but to change colours in such a way that it looks as good as on paper, even after being scanned.

I'm really glad you found it helpful! :D And yup, PS CS4 is a marvel, lets you keep at least 70% of what you have on paper when you transform it into digital ;)

I'm sure you can. All PS are similar, especially in the fundamental things like Curves :)

Thats not really cleaning up?
Reply
:iconleg-o-lass:
leg-o-lass Featured By Owner Nov 9, 2011  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Why not? To me it looks like cleaning up - look at the first pic, how dirty and grey and ugly it is, and compare it to the end result - a clean, bright, presentable sketch. But ok, if not "cleaning up", which term would you use to describe the process I show in this tutorial? I don't mind changing the title if the goal of the tutorial will be clearer to the viewers :)

I thnk it would be more fixing up, then clean up. Clean up is more of erasing lines to make a lineart. fixing up is changing the lighting like you did to make itlook better.

Very nice! Thanks for making it!
Usually I open it and just derp around with the levels and saturation until it looks as close as possible to the original.
Although that's not always possible. Did I mention that I hate scanners? xDD

That's true! Some of my big pictures I've had to do with a camera.... boy, is it an awful experience!
I'll have to go to Staples or something to get a scan next time.

No problem!

Thanks for the tutorial!
